With the premier for Captain America: Civil War looming, two news snippets of casting news have come to light, and although neither character has been named yet one of these bits of casting could be very significant… or just a coincidence.
The two actors in question are Jim Rash (the principal in Community) and Alfre Woodard (Star Trek: First Contact, True Blood). Now, the, “Oooooohhhh…?!” element comes from the fact that Woodard is playing Mariah Dillard, a Harlem politician (and rumoured to be the Marvel villain Black Mariah), on the upcoming Marvel Netflix series, Luke Cage. The big question is, then, will she be playing Dillard in Civil War, thus forming an official link between the MCU and the Marvel/Netflix series? It’s just as possible, though. she’s playing a completely unconnected character.
Jim Rash, meanwhile, will probably be following in the footsteps of Community’s Danny Pudi who had a brief but memorable role as a SHIELD agent in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo both worked extensively on Community.
