UPDATE: Full trailer is here.
When we say “very brief teaser” in the headline what we basically mean is “barely more than you can see in the screen grab”. We haven’t had a teaser for a trailer for a while but it seems like Hollywood marketeers haven’t tired of the gimmick. Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that the first Rogue One trailer will debut later today (UK time) Good Morning America (dear God don’t let them plaster hideous captions all over it like they did with their Captain America: Civil War featurette). So while we wait for that here’s a lot of logo and a tiny snatch of footage. (And, okay, yeah… brief as it is, it does turn us into excitable fanboys).
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set just before Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel.
It stars Felicity Jones (The Theory Of Everything), Diego Luna (Milk), Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind), Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II), Jiang Wen (Devils On The Doorstep), Forest Whitaker (The Last King Of Scotland), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Alan Tudyk (Firefly) and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler).
Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters), with a score by Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech) Rogue One will be released in the UK on 16 December 2016.
