Most media news outlets have been making references to the fact the Ben Affleck is due to write, direct and star in solo Batman movie for so many months now that it’s somewhat surprising to remember that until now it only been a rumour. But finally Warner Bros has made it official.
Speaking at CinemaCon, an annual gathering of cinema operators in Las Vegas, Warner Bros chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed, “I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”
The rumours that Affleck was developing the project – writing it alongside DC’s Geoff Johns – first surfaced at San Diego Comic-Con last year.
No release date has yet been announced but The Hollywood Reporter is speculating that it will take one of the two slots Warner Bros recently reserved for two untitled DC films: 5 October 2018, or 1 Nov 2019. The other could go to Suicide Squad 2.
