Syfy has added New Zealand actress Frankie Adams (Shortland Street) to season two of its space opera drama The Expanse. She will be playing Bobbie Draper.
Draper was first introduced in Caliban’s War, the second of the Expanse novels on which the show is based, and went on to become a major player in the series. The Expanse is set 200 years in the future, when man has spread across the solar system and tensions between various colonies threatens to become all-out war.
Described as “powerful in both stature and personality”, Bobbie Draper followed in her father’s footsteps, enlisting in the Martian Marine Corps at an early age. A born solider, she quickly rose to the rank of Gunnery Sargent, commanding a group of elite troops. When a surprise attack on her squad puts in her in the middle of the growing conflict between Earth and Mars, Bobbie, a fierce nationalist, is forced to question her loyalties and make new, surprising alliances.
Adams is just under six foot so she certainly fits the “stature” needed to Draper. Series two of The Expanse is due to air on Syfy in the States in early 2017.
