Universal has confirmed that JA Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) is set to direct the sequel to Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly will once again write the script, but Trevorrow won’t be directing this time as he’ll be busy in a galaxy far, far away calling the shots of Star Wars Episode IX.

A satisfying fringe benefit of Bayona getting the Jurassic World 2 gig is that it will hopefully generate more interest in his upcoming release, a movie adaptation of Patrick Ness’s novel A Monster Calls. Despite a couple of astonishingly fine trailers so far, there seems to be very little buzz on the internet for this stylish-looking children’s fantasy so it could do with a bit of extra free publicity. Go on, click on the trailer links at the bottom of this article. Bayona has also directed episodes of Penny Dreadful.
Following the announcement, Bayona Tweeted, “It’s official! So excited to join the Jurassic Team!!”
Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg will produce the sequel which is set for a June 2018 release.
