Love it or hate it, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was unarguably a very traditional Star Wars movie, certainly deliberately so. The plan seems to have been to ease the audience back into to franchise with something comfortingly familiar before taking the saga in new directions.
And the more we hear about director Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII, the more it sounds like it really is veering off in new directions. A few months back scriptwriter Lawrence Kasdan told The LA Times, “”If you’ve seen Rian’s work, you know it’s not going be like anything that’s ever been in Star Wars.’”
Now Dameron Poe actor Oscar Isaac tells the same outlet, “I would agree with Kasdan. Rian is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the Star Wars universe. For me, it’s so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn’t have expected in this universe. In some ways, it feels like we’re making an independent film. Certain things we get to play with – this kind of intimacy that we get to find – it’s special. It’s been really fun.”
Yeah, but does it have AT-ATs?
