Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) has been cast as a Marvel superhero. Possibly. Maybe. Sort of.
Y’see, there’s been some filming going on for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 in Cartersville, Georgia and it’s raised some interesting question.
For a start it seems to be set on Earth in contemporary times, when director James Gunn has said on various occasions that Peter Quill will be the only human in the film. So what is this? A flashback? A clip from an action film that Peter Quill watches? Does he have VHS videos as well as his mix tape?
Even more enticing is that the set also includes a cinema that has been redressed to look like it’s showing a “Simon Williams Film Festival”. Now, Simon Williams is the real name of the Marvel superhero Wonder Man, who was an actor when he wasn’t Avengering.
And guess who’s portraying Simon Williams in the posters for the festival? Yep, Nathan Filllion.
But we get the feeling that this is an elaborate Easter eggs and we won’t be seeing Fillion in action as Wonder Man in the film, because the posters – for films like Arkon (seemingly a Conan-like character) and The Toxic Janitor 2 (a nod to Troma’s The Toxic Avenger which was written and directed by Lloyd Kaufman who cameoed in Guardians of the Galaxy) – have “in-jokes” written all over them.
But you never know.
