Haven star Eric Balfour has teamed up with Continuum creator/showrunner Simon Barry and Fargo producer Warren Littlefield for These Broken Stars, a TV series based on Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner’s best-selling sci-fi romance novel, the first in the Starbound trilogy.
Balfour so far is only connected in an executive producer capacity, though will probably star. Simon Barry will write the adaptation which is about a massive luxury spaceliner that crashes on a planet. Lilac LaRoux — the daughter of the richest man in the universe — and Tarver Merendsen — a young war hero who comes from nothing — are the only survivors and must work together to survive a dangerous landscape.
The show is currently being developed for Freeform, the US channel that airs Shadowhunters but let’s not hold that against them.
Kaufman and Spooner’s These Broken Stars was published in December 2013. The second book, This Shattered World, came out in December 2014, and the third, Their Fractured Light, in December 2015.
Balfour is also about to direct his first feature film, The Flesh, in which he also stars. The film is a new twist on the classic vampire tales set in a world where only women can become vampires. [via Deadline]
