Kingsman: The Secret Service panel at MCM London Comic Con
If you’re not excited for Kingsman: The Secret Service yet, you must have simply missed the memo, because this film promises to be amazing. Based on the comics by Mark Miller and Dave Gibbons, who also wrote Kick-Ass, and directed by Matthew Vaughn, best known for directing films such Kick-Ass (2010), and X-Men: First Class (2011), it’s a combination of talent that should hit cinemas with a bang. Colin Firth depicts a veteran secret agent who...

Kick-Ass 2 Review

Kick-Ass 2 Review
One could be apprehensive to see the job of directing the sequel of 2010 hit Kick-Ass passed from Matthew Vaughn to Jeff Wadlow – whose last feature was 2008’s Never Back Down – but breathe a sigh of relief, for Kick-Ass 2 isn’t that bad. It’s actually quite a solid flick.  Taking the story of 2010’s Kick-Ass onwards, the sequel follows Dave Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Mindy Macreedy (Chloë Grace Moretz) who have effectively...

Kick-Ass 2 Red-Band Trailer

Kick-Ass 2 Red-Band Trailer
2010’s motion picture adaptation of the Mark Millar/John Romita, Jr. comic book Kick-Ass was a refreshing hit in this world of comic book movies, adapted from a much more recent series that took a more postmodern, brutal take on the idea of costumed vigilantes. With a few minor changes, X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn alongside writer Jane Goldman helped adapt Kick-Ass for the screen, turning it into a gleeful cinematic change of pace...

Star Wars news round-up. Is Matthew Vaughn directing and will Harrison Ford be back?
With the big news last week that Disney bought Lucasfilm you can expect to see a lot of Star Wars related news starting to appear. Already Collider is reporting that Matthew Vaughn’s main reason for leaving X-Men is that he is in talks with Lucasfilm to work on Episode VII. Collider state this is unconfirmed but they seem fairly confident in their sources. It seemed strange for Vaughn to step down as director (he will now be a producer) from something...

X-Men: Days of Future Past – Matthew Vaughn out and Bryan Singer in?

X-Men: Days of Future Past – Matthew Vaughn out and Bryan Singer in?
At a fairly late stage Matthew Vaughn has stepped down as director for X-Men: Days of Future Past. His reasons for leaving haven’t fully been explained, though some seem to think it has something to do with his work on Mark Millar’s Secret Service (that’s his comic book and it’s adaptation, not his own attempt at MI6). The good news for fans of the original X-Men films, is that Bryan Singer is on the top of Fox’s list of possible...

X-Men: First Class review

X-Men: First Class review
CAST a glance back to the 1960s (if you can). The US is on the brink of a nuclear war with Russia off the coast of Cuba. Battleship formations have been drawn up. Weapons are aimed. Add into that mix some mutants with other-worldy powers and you pretty much have the setting for a return to form for a franchise not only on its knees, but lying face down in the mud. X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine had abruptly taken a promising...

Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz talk X-Men: First Class

Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz talk X-Men: First Class
“It’s a tragic bromance,” says Zack Stentz, one of the screenwriters of X-Men: First Class, bringing to light what he considers, “the dirty little secret of the movie.” “This is a film about self-image,” adds Zack’s fellow writing partner Ashley Miller. “How do you see yourself? Who are you? Who will you become?” The bromance and self-image relates to the two lead characters, Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, and Erik Lehnsherr,...
