GAME FACE: Goodbye Lionhead Studios

GAME FACE: Goodbye Lionhead Studios
©Stuart Whyte So over the weekend, we said goodbye to a rather special English developer; Lionhead Studios. On 29th April, Lionhead had their last day in business, and I was one of the many mourning their closure. There’s no official reason as to why the studio were made to close their doors by their all-mighty benefactor; Microsoft, but I think we can hazard a damn good guess. Despite Fable: Legends being in development, there have been murmurings...

The new Xbox One exclusive is… TOMB RAIDER!

The new Xbox One exclusive is… TOMB RAIDER!
It is not unusual in these ultra-competitive times for games consoles to have titles exclusive to them. After all Microsoft’s Xbox has Halo, and Sony’s PlayStation has the Uncharted franchise. What is unusual, though, is for a high value and previously multi-platform franchise to completely change its sales model and become a one brand band. That is exactly what has happened, however, as the next Tomb Raider game, Rise Of The Tomb Raider,...

Ubisoft E3 2014 Press Conference – All About Assassins, Gunfights, and Workouts

Ubisoft E3 2014 Press Conference – All About Assassins, Gunfights, and Workouts
In the closing hours of the first day of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, gamers were no doubt already feeling that they were at the limit of their hype. With heavyweights like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo filling up the day’s schedule, it might seem at first that publisher and developer Ubisoft wouldn’t make so much of a splash compared to the big kids in the yard. They definitively proved otherwise, however, in their action-packed,...

Xbox One Without Kinect Announced

Xbox One Without Kinect Announced
When the Xbox One was officially revealed and many of the details were let known to the public, one of the key issues involved having your Kinect plugged in to actually use the console. While that rule was soon abolished, it was too late to stop the shipping of the Xbox One without the Kinect.  However in a post on the official Xbox website, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, announced that the Xbox will be “Delivering More Choices for Fans”...

Copies of Atari E.T. Games found in New Mexico Desert

Copies of Atari E.T. Games found in New Mexico Desert
E.T. has been found, well the video game at least. Released on the Atari 2600 in 1982, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was considered a critical and commercial failure, to the point that Atari dumped millions of unsold copies in a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico… or so the story goes. As part of an exclusive documentary produced by Microsoft’s Xbox Entertainment Studios for the Xbox, Avengers and X-Men 2 writer Zak Penn will helm the documentary...

The First TV Advert for the Xbox One

The First TV Advert for the Xbox One
The first TV advert for the Xbox One was shown in the US and also uploaded on the Xbox YouTube channel. Interestingly it doesn’t feature any videogames. For now, Microsoft want people to know that you can use their console to Skype with your friends while using their enhanced NFL app for fantasy football.  Microsoft are aiming to promote how the Xbox One is not just a videogames console, but a complete home entertainment unit. So the overall...

Microsoft Have Listened, No More DRM or Internet Check-ins on Xbox One
Microsoft didn’t have a very good time of it at E3 and they know it. That’s why they finally listened to the gamers and decided to make some changes. Today Microsoft’s President of the Interactive Entertainment Business, Don Mattrick, made an announcement on XBox.com that went like this: Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback....
