TV Adaptations of Shutter Island, Minority Report and The Devil’s Advocate in the Works

TV Adaptations of Shutter Island, Minority Report and The Devil’s Advocate in the Works
Following the success of the recent television adaptation of the Coen Brothers’ crime thriller Fargo, it’s been announced that three more feature films will be getting the TV treatment. Late last week, NBC announced plans for an adaptation of The Devil’s Advocate, while Amblin Entertainment revealed that it was working on a serialised version of Minority Report. Not to be outdone, HBO has more recently staked its claim to 2010’s...

Hercules preview and Q&A report

Hercules preview and Q&A report
Today Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X:Men The Last Stand) and the cast of Hercules brought their unique vision of an old tale to London to give a world exclusive preview of footage from the movie. Ratner confirmed that he had only just been putting the finishing touches to the project so the full movie was unavailable, but we were treated to a 2D non-IMAX screening of a glimpse at a few parts of the film as well as a full battle scene, and the 3D trailer. Hercules...

Transformers: Age of Extinction review

Transformers: Age of Extinction review
The tagline for Transformers: Age of Extinction tells us that “The rules have changed.” Yet the formula here remains largely the same, which must mean that the rulebook only has one page. If you’ve seen at least one of director Michael Bay’s Transformers films then you can probably predict how this plays out. The intent is to deliver the most glorious destruction and explosions your eyes will ever see, enhanced by IMAX 3D no less. This involves...

Star Trek 3, G.I. Joe 3, Transformers 5 and More Coming from Paramount in 2016

Star Trek 3, G.I. Joe 3, Transformers 5 and More Coming from Paramount in 2016
During last week’s CineEurope conference in Spain, Paramount Pictures EMEA Edward Ryan revealed the company’s release slate for 2016. While many of the films included have long been expected to appear in 2016, the list also includes a few surprises, such as Transformers 5, which was previously scheduled for release in 2017, and Paranormal Activity 5, which has now been pushed back by 3 years from its initial planned release in 2013. The...

Paramount to Remake 80s Sci-Fi Film Explorers

Paramount to Remake 80s Sci-Fi Film Explorers
A remake of 1980s science-fiction adventure film Explorers is being planned by Paramount, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed. Released in 1985, the original movie marked the feature film debut of both Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix, and told the story of three teenagers who work together to build their own spaceship. The third boy was played by Jason Presson (Gremlins 2: The New Batch). If the kid-centred sci-fi seems to have something of a Spielberg...

Disney acquires the rights to the future of Indiana Jones
Walt Disney Studios have reached an agreement with Paramount Pictures that sees Disney owning the distribution and marketing rights to any future films in the Indiana Jones franchise, on top of retaining the ownership rights when they bought Lucasfilm. Under the new agreement Paramount are still in charge when it comes to the distribution of the first four Indiana Jones films. They will even receive an undisclosed sum of the profits on any future...

Star Trek: The Video Game Review

Star Trek: The Video Game Review
Oh Star Trek: The Video Game, I had such high hopes for you. You appeared to be doing so well when we spent some time together a few months back. What happened to you? When I played a demo of the game previewed back in February, I was pretty positive about it. What I’d seen looked a step above your average movie release tie-in game. The unfortunate truth, as is sometimes the case, is that the section we were shown at that event didn’t...

Second Iron Man 3 trailer reveals… Iron Legion

Second Iron Man 3 trailer reveals… Iron Legion
With the release of Iron Man 3 less than two months away, a new trailer and poster has been unveiled. So far all the posters for this third instalment, including the latest one, have shown Tony Stark unmasked in his (partially destroyed) suit of armour, suggesting that the latest film is less about the Iron and more about the Man.  Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is left trying to adjust after what happened to him in New York, as seen in The Avengers....

Star Trek: The Video Game – Preview and Chat with Paramount SVP Brian Miller

Star Trek: The Video Game – Preview and Chat with Paramount SVP Brian Miller
I was understandably dubious when I was invited to demo Star Trek: The Video Game earlier this week. Movie tie in games don’t have the best reputation amongst gamers for their quality and what little I’d seen of the game before attending left me fearing this would be just another mindless cash-in to help sell this year’s new film. Amazingly, this game is as far from a lazy cash-in as it could be. With very polished combat mechanics,...

Hitchcock review

Hitchcock review
The surname for a title may suggest a biographically epic, but instead Hitchcock focuses on the issues that surrounded the director during the production of Psycho. Adapted from Stephen Rebello’s book, Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, it just seems odd that someone out there thought it would be a good idea to create a film out of it. There’s only so much you can say on the making of a film, so in comes some marital drama, a sprinkle...
