Guillermo del Toro’s DC Comics movie moving forward

Guillermo del Toro’s DC Comics movie moving forward
Guillermo del Toro is a busy filmmaker. So busy in fact, he had to turn down the offer of directing Star Wars Episode VII because he was just so busy. Regardless, the iconic director of films such as Pan’s Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies as well as the upcoming giant robots vs. giant monsters movie Pacific Rim has recently confirmed that yet another motion picture project of his is slowly gaining traction: a movie called (for now) Dark Universe. It...

Josh Trank-directed Fantastic Four reboot coming 2015
The superhero genre of movies, not to mention reboots, shows no signs of stopping in the next few years. Outside of Disney’s stable of Marvel movies and Warner Bros.’ stable of DC movies building up their cinematic universes (and to ultimate crossover movies in The Avengers 2 and Justice League), one can’t forget that Fox also holds the rights of some Marvel characters and continues to make their own brilliant adaptations as well. Not long...

Famke Janssen and Patrick Stewart back for more X-Men?
Back in August Bryan Singer revealed that the second X-Men First Class film will be based off of the Days of Future Past series of comics. The story finds Kitty Pryde receiving a warning from her future self about the horrors that await the X-Men in the future. The time travelling aspect of the story has had people wondering and speculating about what this could mean. Patrick Stewart has already suggested that he could be returning for another go...

The studio only distributed the first film, which was partially funded by director Matthew Vaughn from out of his own pocket. Made on a production budget of $30 million, the film managed to gross $96 million worldwide. Vaughn is unable to direct, for he is committed...

Have you had enough of 3D?

Have you had enough of 3D?
US movie ticket site Fandango began selling tickets for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 from June 10th, and it’s been reported that ticket sales for the 2D screenings are outselling the 3D version. That’s not all. Even the recently released Green Lantern, which opened with $53.1 million at the US box office, had more than 50% of its ticket sales come from 2D screenings. Could it be that the novelty for 3D has worn off? James Cameron’s...

Green Lantern Movie Review

Green Lantern Movie Review
FILMS based on comics are quickly cluttering up the cinema box office. Marvel seems to have stolen a march this year with the epic X-Men: First Class, while Thor was passable. And they still have to release Captain America. DC seems to be hedging their bets on next year’s grand finale to Chris Nolan‘s Batman trilogy – The Dark Knight Rises. However, this year they have thrown their hat into ring with second-tier superhero Green...

X-Men: First Class review

X-Men: First Class review
CAST a glance back to the 1960s (if you can). The US is on the brink of a nuclear war with Russia off the coast of Cuba. Battleship formations have been drawn up. Weapons are aimed. Add into that mix some mutants with other-worldy powers and you pretty much have the setting for a return to form for a franchise not only on its knees, but lying face down in the mud. X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine had abruptly taken a promising...

Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz talk X-Men: First Class

Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz talk X-Men: First Class
“It’s a tragic bromance,” says Zack Stentz, one of the screenwriters of X-Men: First Class, bringing to light what he considers, “the dirty little secret of the movie.” “This is a film about self-image,” adds Zack’s fellow writing partner Ashley Miller. “How do you see yourself? Who are you? Who will you become?” The bromance and self-image relates to the two lead characters, Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, and Erik Lehnsherr,...
