New Trailer For Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch has been described by director Zack Snyder as, ‘Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.’ From the footage that’s been released so far, one could take it as a mix of Alice in Wonderland, Blade Runner, Q: The Winged Serpent, Blood: The Last Vampire, Inglourious Basterds, Casshern, Moulin Rouge and Brazil.

Having directed a remake and a pair of comic book adaptations, Sucker Punch makes for Snyder’s first fully original work. Nowadays originality is a risk that few movie studios will take on, however Sucker Punch is being released by Warner Bros. and they recently achieved great success after taking a chance on Christopher Nolan’s Inception. Word is that Nolan also hand picked Snyder to direct Warner Bros. other hot property, Superman: Man of Steel.

The full theatrical trailer for Sucker Punch has been launched and finally offers a bit of extra story accompanying the visuals of young girls dressed in sailor school outfits and short skirts, shooting machine guns, wielding samurai swords and generally kicking ass… to the sound Led Zeppelin’s When the Levee Breaks kicks in.

Set in the 1950’s, Baby Doll (Emily Browning) explains that she’s lost everyone she ever loved. After witnessing her stepfather do a very bad thing, he sends her to Lennox House for the mentally insane. Retreating to an imaginary world in her mind she devises a plan to escape, but in order to do that she needs to collect five objects as explained to her by Scott Glenn as ‘The Wiseman’ (a map, fire, a knife and a key. The fifth thing is a mystery). Joined by four other young girls – Rocket (Jena Malone), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), Amber (Jamie Chung) and Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) – they work together in trying to escape.

The trailer can be viewed below, though we’d recommend viewing it in HD.

Sucker Punch is scheduled for release on March 25th 2011.
