Shinji Mikami Joins ZeniMax Family

ZeniMax Media Inc. has announced their latest acquisition in the form of Shinji Mikami and his Tokyo-based studio Tango Gameworks.

For those unfamiliar with ZeniMax, they are the parent company of Bethesda Softworks- creators of the Elder Scrolls series and the recent hit Fallout 3.

Fans may have suspected that something was afoot when ZeniMax announced three weeks prior to the acquisition that they had brokered a deal for $150 million investment from Providence Equity Partners. Following the acquisition of Arkane Studios in August this year and id Software in June 2009 it is clear that ZeniMax are expanding their family with some of the best and brightest that the industry has to offer.

This latest addition to a growing catalogue of world class developers in the ZeniMax family has built a career, spanning two decades, producing quality video games with a string of hits to his name.

Mikami’s name is now synonymous with quality Japanese video games, and with his biggest hit- the Resident Evil series. During his career he has produced several cult favourites each drawing on his own trademark “psychological action thriller” style. Resident Evil (the game that gave us the term “Survival Horror”) is certainly his most recognisable work but he also worked on celebrated titles such as Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Ace Attorney.

Robert Altman, CEO of ZeniMax Media remarked that he was ‘look(ing) forward to working with Shinji and his team at Tango.’
