Steam powered TVs

No our steampunk friends haven’t created a funky new contraption, Valve has joined the battle for domination of your living room, kitchen, bedroom or any other place where you might be tempted to put a TV. By giving Steam a new “big picture” mode Valve will soon start offering controller support and navigation designed for television interaction. This means that it become possible to use Steam via the PC,  Mac or PS3 on any Steam enabled TV or computer display in the house in a fashion that sounds somewhat similar to the OnLive gaming service.

The technology looks promising and could potentially offer a great cross-platform gaming experience. If this type of tech catches on PWC’s recent report which foretells the steady decline of Retail PC Gaming sales may have been on the optimistic side.
