Sarah Jane

Elisabeth Sladen has passed away today at the age of 63 years old.

The Liverpool-born actress made her first major appearance on our screens in Doctor Who as Sarah-Jane Smith, a companion alonside Jon Pertwee 1973, she then remained with him even after he regenerated into his fourth incarnation (played by Tom Baker), forming what is still recognised among fans today as one of the greatest Doctor/Companion pairings to date. In 2006 Liz Sladen returned to the show alongside David Tennant before starring in her own spin-off, titled “The Sarah Jane Adventures“, the show was extremely popular on CBBC and even had a fifth series commissioned and part filmed – whether this will still go ahead now is uncertain.

The cause of her death is currently unknown, but according to BBC Entertainment reporter, Lizo Mzimba, she has had cancer for some time now.

Paul Cornell, a writer for Doctor Who said, “Very sorry to hear about Elisabeth Sladen, a great actor, special to everyone of my generation and a whole new one.”

Rest In Peace Elizabeth.

A Word From The Editor: Earlier this evening I like the rest of the word heard the sad news of Elisabeth’s passing and like the rest of the world I was stunned and deeply saddened and moved by this news.

Several years ago I had the pleasure of interviewing her about her life and work and even though I met her for a short time, she came across as a warm, friendly and fantastic person. She had worked hard in her life and showed great strength, poise and as a result she achieved her goals and dreams. Through her work she has managed to touch and bring together generations and is living proof that through hard work you can achieve anything.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her husband and daughter at this difficult time and lastly to her I would say thank you and that today the heavens welcome a new Angel.
