Anime Director, Osamu Dezaki Passes Away.

Osamu Dezaki may not be a household name in the West but before passing away at the age of 67, he had created a formidable body of work as well as working with some of the top creators of all time such as legend Osamu Tezuka. While he was still at school Dezaki became a manga artist but it was under Tezuka who owned Mushi Studios which Dezaki joined in 1963 where he made his directorial debut- Ashita no Joe in 1970.

Dezaki then formed Madhouse studio in 1972 with co-founder Masao Maruyama which became a hugely successful animation production studio involved in series’ such as Naruto, Bleach, Death Note and also films such as Paprika, Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers.

Osamu Dezaki was born in Tokyo in 1943 and died at 12:35a.m. on the 17th April after battling lung cancer. A wake will be held on the 20th of April followed by a service on the 21st.

He is survived by his older brother, Satoshi Dezaki who is also an anime director.
