Filming of The Sarah-Jane Adventures has ended

Today, the BBC have announced that there are no plans to film any further episodes of Doctor Who spinoff – The Sarah-Jane Adventures following the recent tragic death of Elisabeth Sladen.

Elisabeth Sladen first played a companion to the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, in 1973 and she stayed with the show until 1976 when she bid the fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, a fond farewell. Since then Sarah Jane has reappeared in the show multiple times, including in 2006 alongside the tenth Doctor, David Tennant, where in she was so popular that she scored her own spinoff series titled The Sarah Jane Adventures, which started in 2007. The show was an instant hit and was still going strong at the time of her passing. Elisabeth Sladen had also recently agreed to do six new audio adventures alongside Tom Baker for Big Finish Productions.

Reports then began to surface that the show would be filming new episodes featuring rewritten scripts to explain the absense of the lead character, Sarah Jane (played by Elisabeth Sladen), these reports then prompted the BBC to release the following statement:

“Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011. As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed.”
