Could we lose two companions this series?

Filming on the sixth series of Doctor Who has now ended and the cast are taking a well earned rest before the next one, but could two members have already packed their bags and left the Tardis?

The pair in question are of course the current companions Amy Pond (Played by Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Played by Arthur Darvill) and it certainly seems that they may have handed back their keys to the Police box based on the recent filming projects that the pair have undertaken. With the flame-haired Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) all set to play the part of Jean Shrimpton in the BBC Four Drama, We’ll Take Manhattan, whilst Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams) is ready to take on the role of Mephistopheles in Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus throughout the summer from the 18th of June until the 2nd of October.
Also when recently speaking about her role as Jean Shrimpton, Karen Gillan was quoted as saying, “This is perfect for the first thing that I do after I finish Doctor Who.” So if you couple this quote with the fact that both projects filming schedules will be coinciding with that of the popular sci-fi series’s filming schedule and it does not look good for the pairs return.

Whilst it may be true that David Tennant managed to simultaneously take on the roles of Hamlet and The Doctor in 2009, this was achieved by reducing the show to just four special episodes for the year and it doesn’t seem likely for the show to take another break so soon – certainly not for the sake of anyone but The Time Lord himself.

So as it appears that the adventures in time and space are coming to an end for the Ponds, who would you like to see take their place on board Tardis?
