Devil May Cry movie in development

Hot off of showcasing the latest trailer for DmC Devil May Cry at E3, Capcom have announced that a Devil May Cry movie is finally in development.

It will be based on the latest game in the series, which is believed to be an origins story, rebooting the franchise (note that Capcom have refrained from calling it Devil May Cry 5). It also suggests that there will be no references to the previous games in the eventual movie.

The film adaptation is to be scripted by Kyle Ward, who has already finished working on adapting Kyne & Lynch for the big screen. There is no word yet on a director or cast.

The rights to develop the movie have been given to Sony’s Screen Gems, which seems fitting, since the studio has had a lot of success with Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise. The four Resident Evil movies have earned a combined total of $670 million worldwide, with a fifth one on the way next year.

The Devil May Cry movie is expected to be released in 2013.
