Pottermore: Bringing the World of Harry Potter to the “Digital Generation”

So, you’ve heard all the hyp around it, and today JK Rowling‘s new website ‘Pottermore‘ finally came live… sort of.

The website is now under the guise of a Hogwarts classroom with a desk, chair and of course, an owl. But Fans won’t be able to fully interact with the site until October (however, a few lucky fans will be able to access the site from July 31st).

The author, who began writing the boy wizard’s character whilst on a train to London, starts off by saying that after thirteen years since the first Harry Potter book was published (The Philosopher’s Stone), ” I am still astonished and delighted by the response the stories met”.

What is Pottermore about?

I am thrilled to say I am now in a position to give you something Unique: an online reading experience unlike any other. It’s called: PottermoreJ.K. Rowling 2011

Pottermore is touted as being an online reading experience “unlike any other”. A place where Fan’s will have access to the same story “but with a few crucial additions – the most important one is you” comments Rowling. The site will also apparently be a safe on-line experience based around the Harry Potter books and where once again in his creators own words, “fans of any age can share, participate in and re-discover the stories…”

Pottermore will also be the place where fans of the Harry Potter verse can buy exclusive Digital audio books of the series and, for the first time, official E-Books of the series.

JK Rowling has said she will also be joining fans in the Pottermore experience as she will share additional information on the books, characters etc. that she’s “been hording for years”.

How do we join in??

“Pottermore is open to everyone from October, but a lucky few can enter early and help shape the experience.”

So, there you have it.

Pottermore is currently giving fans the chance to sign up to recieve an email to let them know when registration will be open, but avid Harry Potter fans can return to the site on July 31st to find out to get early and exclusive access to the site and help shape its content in doing so.
