UK Trailer for Studio Ghibli’s Arrietty

A UK trailer for Studio Ghibli’s Arrietty has surfaced, which includes a rhyming narration!

Inspired by Mary Norton’s The Borrowers, the film tells of Arrietty, a very tiny 14-year-old girl who lives with her mother and father in an old house. They strive to remain out of sight, while “borrowing” things that humans wouldn’t miss. One day a human boy, the 12-year-old Sho, accidentally sees Arrietty, and the two soon develop a friendship.

Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and written by Hayao Miyazaki, it was reported that the film will receive a US and UK dub. This trailer is the first time audiences will have heard the UK voice cast, which includes Saoirse Ronan as Arrietty, Mark Strong (as her father, Pod), Olivia Colman (as her mother, Homily), and Tom Holland (as Sho).

Distributed by Optimum Releasing, Arrietty opens in the UK on July 29th. If you can’t wait till then, the Barbican in London will be screening a selection of Studio Ghibli classics this month, which also includes special preview screenings of Arrietty. Get in there before they sell out!
