Metroid Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

6th August 2011 marked the 25th anniversary of the successful Nintendo series, Metroid. Nintendo has already celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda this year, as well as Super Mario at the end of 2010. Unfortunately Nintendo have not announced any plans to celebrate as of yet, but considering that Zelda has a celebratory symphony, and Mario acquired a special re-release of Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii, hopefully Metroid will receive something too.

The Metroid series follows the adventures of bounty hunter Samus Aran. As the game’s protaganist she helps save the galaxy from the sinister Space Pirates, as well as attempting to harness the power of the Metroids. So far, the Metroid series spans 11 games over a host of Nintendo consoles, with the latest addition, Metroid: Other M, gracing the Wii. Across the series, the gameplay combines the platforming aspect evident in Super Mario, as well as the puzzle and exploration side of The Legend of Zelda.

Metroid has successfully retained a loyal fanbase during the past 25 years, and games website have created an excellent video to celebrate this occasion. Created by fans in the Metroid community, this tribute video comprises of fans declaring their love for the series, amongst many notable names in the games industry, such as Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya, creator of the hit WiiWare game, Cave Story.
