The Raven Trailer

From Relativity Media comes a trailer for the gothic thriller The Raven.

Set in 19th century Baltimore, detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) is on the case when a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered. Fields discovers that the crime bears a close resemble to the fictional story “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” written by Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack). Initially suspected, he is questioned by the police, only for another Poe inspired murder to occur. The author then aids them in their hunt for a serial killer, who challenges Poe in “a game of wits.

Unless there’s a big reference in the film itself, the decision to call it The Raven seems unusual, for upon watching the trailer the plot is nothing like Poe’s poem of the same name. Nevertheless, the gothic production design and faultless John Cusack do look impressive.

Directed by James McTeigue, the film also stars Alice Eve as Poe’s fictional partner Emily, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Fields’ right hand man, PC Cantrell. The Raven has no UK release date yet, though shall hopefully arrive at the same time (or not long after) its US bow on March 9th 2012.
