Harry Potter London Studio Tour

Next year every Harry Potter fan in the UK (and let’s face it, there are a lot of them) can follow the footsteps of the boy wizard through the majestic Great Hall for the first time at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. This special behind-the-scenes attraction is set to open its doors on 31st March 2012.

The partially-guided walking tour will take visitors on a magical journey through iconic sets in the Harry Potter universe, including Dumbledore’s office, the Ministry of Magic, the Gryffindor common room, the boys’ dormitory, the Potions classroom, Professor Umbridge’s office, the Weasley kitchen, the Hogwarts bridge and Harry’s cupboard under the stairs. There are still many more sets due to be announced.

Fans can also have a glimpse at props, costumes and animatronics used in the eight-part movie series and learn about the special effects used. The tour promises to amaze visitors with incredible detailed crafstmanship, some of it not even being noticable on camera, but altogether making the magical world seem more real and tangible.

It sounds like a perfect outing for muggles not ready to say goodbye to the movie franchise just yet, following its climatic end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part Two) this Summer. Its appeal should also extend to any fan of movies interested in the creation and workings that go into making films, particuarly of the most successful film franchise to date.

Not all of us can afford to nip over to Universal Studios in Florida to visit the successful Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which boasts an amazing recreation of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, experiencing the actual sets and scenery used in the films, here in the UK, Harry Potter‘s home, feels only… right. I just hope that the Studio Cafe sells the fantastically creamy Butterbeer, but I imagine that might be wishful thinking. There will be a shop on site, however, to pick up some souvineers. Maybe a wand, a Quiddich scarf, a chocolate frog, who knows?!

International fans will undoubtedly enjoy the experience, too, with hundreds flocking to the UK for the Olympic Games. With this new attraction being only a train ride away at Leavesden Studios, I can only suggest those wishing to visit booking as soon as possible!

Tickets go on sale from 13th October 2011. Fans wishing to visit will need to book their tickets and select their tour time in advance via www.wbstudiotour.co.uk (or through approved tour operators). The booking system will be running on a first come-first serve basis. They will also be selling Gift Tickets and with christmas two months away, we probably all know someone who wouldn’t mind a ticket with their Harry Potter Blu-Ray box-set… (HINT HINT).

Prices: £28 for adults, £21 for children and £83 for a family of four (still, it’s cheaper than Florida and comes without the sunburn).
