Is Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who next year?

Matt Smith may have let slip that he has only one more year on our screens playing The Doctor.

In a recent interview with VH1, the 28-year-old actor said: “I’ve got another year of Doctor Who, but then I’m certainly going to come and give it a shot and come and hang out in LA…

Smith has previously said that he would like to crack Hollywood after his time on Doctor Who.

Matt Smith has played the main character in the BBC’s sci-fi drama for two years now, with his second season as The Doctor finishing less than a month ago to high ratings all around. The finale of the last season contained an ominous warning of “The fall of the Eleventh…” which seems to imply the end of The Doctor‘s eleventh incarnation.

Matt’s departure from the show after a third season would tie into the conventions of the Time Lord‘s previous incarnations, the majority of which stay with the show for three years.
