Doctor Who loses both companions next season

Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill who play Amy and Rory Pond are set to leave Doctor Who in the next season.

The announcement was made by showrunner, Steven Moffat,  at a screening for the christmas episode at the BBC Television Centre in London.

Steven Moffat said: “The final days of the Ponds are coming.” He went on to say, “I’m not telling you when or how, but that story is going to come to a heartbreaking end.

The Doctor is going to meet “A new friend” following the departure of companions Amy and Rory, but no-one has been casted for the role at this time.

On the departure of Karen and Arthur, The Doctor, Matt Smith, said: “We had the most incredible journey. We took over the show and we’ve really had to hold hands and help each other through it.” He added, “It’s very disappointing, but one has to remember that this show is about change and regeneration, and that’s what galvanizes it and pushes it forwards.

The christmas special of Doctor Who can be seen on BBC One on the 25th of December.
