JJ Abrams casts Benedict Cumberbatch & Noel Clarke in Star Trek 2

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who has previously starred in the BBC TV series Sherlock Holmes, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and more recently War Horse, is to play the next villain in the JJ Abrams movie along with Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

According to Variety, Carlos star Edgar Ramirez auditioned for the role last month, but ultimately lost out to Cumberbatch.

Also appearing in the movie will be Former Doctor Who actor Noel Clarke.

Clarke’s role is yet to be revealed, but he is rumoured to be playing a “family man with a wife and young daughter.”

JJ Abrams recently revealed that the movie will receive post-conversion 3D, saying: “We’re shooting on film, 2D, and then we’ll do a good high-end conversion like the Harry Potter movie.”

Star Trek 2 is scheduled for release in May 2013.
