No Hope Left – Viral Marketing for Capcom’s Resident Evil 6?

So a week ago, a website,, starting posting up some strange pictures, showing a symbol (which looks strikingly similar to the Biohazard logo), along with the slogan, No Hope Left. According to the site, these images have so far appeared in Hong Kong, London, Johannesburg, Serbia, Berlin and Tokyo.

A video was later uploaded, where an unnamed woman speaking in Mandarin explains that she and the kids are safe before crying, saying that she wishes someone would help her, before ending rather disturbingly.

Early theories suggested that it’s linked to Capcom and Resident Evil 6. Some detective work from the members on the forums at NeoGaf have shown the registary details of to be similar to the viral website, which is promoting Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City.

However, major credit goes to Tuffcub of The Sixth Axis, who recognised the location of the London advert at Vauxhall Station. Upon calling up Primesight (the company running the advert), they revealed that the one behind the advert IS indeed Capcom!

The site hints at the date January 19th, and that something will be revealed at 14:00 PST (22:00 for those of us in the UK). It’s predicted that it will most likely be an announcement or a teaser trailer of some kind. One other theory is that, as well as the games, it also might be linked to the new film Resident Evil: Retribution. A new trailer for the film is expected to be released tomorrow. Also, a portion of the film takes place in Tokyo, which is one of the locations where the strange Biohazard logo has appeared.

Capcom will be celebrating Resident Evil’s 15th Anniversary with a party in Shibuya on January 20th. The event will be live streamed from 19:00 (which will be 10:00 for us in the UK). As a marketing launch for Resident Evil Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS, it’s looking highly likely that they’ll make an announcement about a possible new game too.

This year also sees the release of Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, which is set to be released for the PS3 and XBOX 360 on March 23rd.
