Resident Evil: Retribution Teaser Trailer

A TV recording of the latest Resident Evil: Retribution trailer managed to make its way online (after it was shown on G4’s Attack of the Show in the US). Below however is the official version from Yahoo (with the option to view in HD). 3D versions of the trailer will be attached to this weekend’s release of Underworld: Awakening.

As Umbrella’s T-Virus continues to decimate the Earth, Alice (Milla Jovovich) fights to survive amidst the legions of the undead. In a journey that sees her end up in Tokyo, New York, Washington D.C. and Moscow, she strives to hunt down those responsible for the outbreak.

Opening with the intro to The Who’s Baba O’Riley, the first 30 seconds of the teaser appears to be a Sony advert! It cleverly opens with a riff on those PC/Mac adverts that we’ve been inundated with, as people revel in their technological advancements (“This is my world”). Note that one woman is even holding a PS Vita! Although it initially looks like it has nothing to do with the film, it’s worth mentioning that the teaser makes it pretty obvious as to where in the world each of those people actually are!

Then Daft Punk’s Recogniser from Tron Legacy plays along with snippets of action, including ‘that’ Rolls-Royce chase Milla had been tweeting details about, shots of Bingbing Li as Ada Wong and… is that the White House!? There’s also a glimpse of former character Rain (Michelle Rodriguez), and a moment where Alice appears to be in Raccoon City, with long blonde hair and has a child by her side. It’s enough to suggest that the film might include a flashback to before the outbreak.

The film is also going under the moniker Re5ident Evil: Retribution 3D, just in case anyone forgot that it’s the fifth film and that it’s in 3D.

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Resident Evil: Retribution also reunites Sienna Guillory and Oded Fehr, and co-stars Jason Isaacs and Shawn Roberts. It is set to open in the UK and US on September 14th 2012.
