God Bless America – Trailer

The first trailer has been released for God Bless America. An edgy black comedy that seems to be a wonderfully bizarre mix of Falling Down and Natural Born Killers, as it follows a middle aged man and a teenage girl getting away with acts of violence when confronted with inane situations and behaviour.

Frank (Joel Murray) has a brain tumour that his doctor describes as, “very dangerous.” Believing that he has nothing left to lose, he decides to take his gun and kill the stupidest, most repellent members of society. Be they insensitive people that throw popcorn at the cinema, to celebrities that don’t really deserve to be celebrities (the trailer appears to suggest a satire on American reality shows). Joining Frank on his rampage is 16-year-old Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who also shares his hatred when it comes to the socially vacuous citizens of America.

Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year and was picked up by Magnet Releasing.

Be warned that this is a red band trailer that features bad language and a fair amount of violence, so you might want to think twice before you crank up the volume and click play.

There’s currently no release date for the UK yet, though given that Goldthwait’s previous features, Sleeping Dogs and World’s Greatest Dad, both found their way over here, there’s a high chance that it will be released later this year. God Bless America opens in the US on May 11th, but will be available through Video on Demand from April 6th.
