MCM & Eagle Awards Debut New Comics Talent Competition!

Ever had a desire to write/draw a comic-book? Here’s your opportunity, courtesy of a fantastic new competition.

MCM and Eagle Awards, in association with “Snow White and the Huntsman”, have announced a new and prestigious competition for new comic book artists and writers.

Within the ‘Huntsman’s Challenge’, creators will find themselves tasked with creating a fully-finished (as in coloured and lettered) five page story, with a plot rooted and set within the confines of the dark fantasy genre. Their work will then be judged by a panel of three esteemed judges that include Titan Publishing’s senior editor Steve White, best-selling writer Tony Lee, and Eisner-winning artist Mark Buckingham.

The winnig creative team will be nominated for a new Eagle Award, an MCM Expo Award for New Visionaries AND have their story included in May’s MCM London Comic Con show program. The latter is printed in conjunction with Snow White And The Huntsman from Universal Pictures, who will also provide a selection of prizes.

In addition, both winners will also recieve invites to the 2012 Eagle Awards ceremony and after-party on the Friday of the MCM London Comic Con, industry passes to the full London Comic Con weekened AND signing slots in the show’s Comic Village.

Bryan Cooney, the marketing director for MCM, provides further context for their rationale behind the competition.

“In just a few years we’ve seen our small Artists Alley turn into a full scale Comic Village, with hundreds of comic creators now attending and exhibiting. Many of today’s best UK creators started with a table at our shows, growing as we have. We’d like to give that opportunity to the next generation of creative teams.”

This really is a fantastic opportunity for the next Bendis, or the next Reis. It gives the opportunity not only to gain a sense of fame for your comic-book career, but also gain a sense of quality by virtue of impressing three esteemed judges. Being involved with the Eagle Awards and MCM is akin to lapping everyone else immediately, and is not a prospect that should be overlooked.
