Children Who Chase Lost Voices Licensed by Viz Media Europe

Viz Media Europe today announced that they have acquired the licence for Makoto Shinkai’s anime feature film Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below and plan to release it on DVD and Blu-Ray in July 2012 across the UK, France, Netherlands, Italy and Germany. A tweet from Kaze UK confirmed they will be handling the UK release in conjunction with Manga Entertainment UK. They also said that they hope to “match” the film’s UK release with its French release, during the Japan Expo Convention in July.

Shinkai is best known for creating Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and 5 Centimeters Per Second. The new film opened in Japan on May 7, 2011 and centres on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. One day, she embarks on a journey of adventure to find a mysterious boy she just met, and thus comes to know the cruelty, beauty and loss of the world. The film held its UK premiere at the London Film Festival in October 2011.

If you’d like the opportunity to catch it on the big screen and happen to be in Scotland this weekend, then you can book tickets to watch the film at the Glasgow Film Festival on Sunday 12th February.
