The Amazing Spider-Man – New Trailer

A sneak peek look at The Amazing Spider-Man took place last night at many cities across the world, showcasing around eight minutes of promo footage, which was then followed by a new trailer. Rather than wait for someone to upload a shakey cam version, Sony Columbia Pictures have not wasted any time in releasing the trailer online.

It’s only been five years since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man came to an end and in trying to differentiate the new film from the previous trilogy the trailer even uses the slogan, “the untold story.” Starring Andrew Garfield as the title character, it does appear to be taking Spider-Man in a completely different direction, describing him as a masked vigilante while having to do battle with the police. His nemesis in the film is Dr. Curt Connors, AKA The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans.

There’s enough in the trailer to get excited about, with Spider-Man swinging through the air, delivering humorous quips (“You seriously think I’m a cop? In a skin tight red-and-blue suit?”), smooching Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and breaking through handcuffs… though one has to wonder how anyone is able to handcuff Spider-Man in the first place.

Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man opens in the US on July 3rd and in the UK on July 4th.
