Who will direct The Hunger Games’ Catching Fire?

Lionsgate have been meeting with potential directors to see who will call the shots on The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. Earlier this month the director of The Hunger Games, Gary Ross, dropped out of the sequel citing, “the fixed and tight production schedule.”

Back in 2011, before The Hunger Games was even released, Lionsgate announced that the sequel would open on November 22nd 2013. In order to keep to that date, they intend to start shooting Catching Fire this August.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate have narrowed down a new director to two names, Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence. It’s no coincidence that they’ve both helmed adaptations. Miller’s last film was Moneyball, and before that Capote, both of which were based on books. It is the same with Lawrence, who previously directed Water for Elephants, and before that I Am Legend. Word is that Miller is very interested, but is currently in the process of pre-production on Foxcatcher for 20th Century Fox, which could make Lawrence the hot favourite.

It was also revealed that Lionsgate met with Juan Antonio Bayona, director of the Spanish horror The Orphanage, and had even considered Joe Cornish, who directed last year’s sci-fi hit Attack the Block.

Who do you think would be best suited to directing Catching Fire?
