Dark Horse to publish The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia in English

From Dark Horse comes the news that they will be releasing The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia encyclopedia book in English next year across North America, UK and Australia. Initially released in Japan in December 2011 to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary, fans over in the west have been eagerly awaiting an English translation.

Essentially a Legend of Zelda Bible, the hardcover book is split up into four sections. The first section is an introduction to the most recent game in the franchise, Skyward Sword, and its world. This is followed by ‘A Complete History of Hyrule’, which details the timeline and Hylia’s bloodline, following the order of events in the series chronologically. The third section showcases official and concept artwork from the games. The final part is a Skyward Sword manga by Akira Himekawa, who have been creating manga adaptations of The Legend of Zelda series since the release of Ocarina of Time.

At the start of this year a Facebook page titled “NoA, Please Bring Us Hyrule Historia in English” was set up. The self-explanatory page currently has over 8,000 members and was basically urging Nintendo of America to release the book in English, stating that if they do, then the fans would buy it. They appear to have kept true to their word for after the book became available to pre-order on Amazon.com, it shot to the top of the best sellers list within 24 hours, toppling Fifty Shades of Grey in the process. Over on this side of the Atlantic at Amazon UK, as of writing the book has so far managed to get as high as #6 on their bestsellers list.
