WWE ’13 Screens, Trailers and Info

Developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ, WWE ’13 is an upcoming wrestling game coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii on November 2nd this year. The game has several improvements over previous versions of the game, including a new mode to replace “Road to WrestleMania”. Read on below to find out what’s different this time around and what to look out for this winter.

Updated Engine:

The game is set to use a new updated version of its previous engine called “The Predator Technology 2.0” which will allow several improvements over last year’s version. The game will now feature more fluid animations, a better weight detection system (which makes it so that smaller stars like Rey Mysterio will be unable to lift larger wrestlers like the Big Show), over 300 new moves, contextual animations (to ensure that the game is using the appropriate move animations at any given time and state) and automatic attack homing, to ensure that the character always strikes towards the enemy. People who noticed odd collisions and transitions in WWE ’12 will be happy to know that many of these have now been fixed and updated.

The new engine also allows a few other new features including Spectacular Moments, which allow players to perform ring breaks, barricade breaks, announce table breaks, and catch (mid-air) finishers and an enhanced audio engine, dubbed WWE Live. Instead of using pre-recorded chants from actors in a warehouse, the game will use live chants recorded at WWE events and dynamically switch between chants to reflect the action on screen.

New Mode:

Replacing “Road to WrestleMania”, WWE ’13 will instead have a new season mode called Attitude Era Mode. Focusing on many wrestlers from the 90’s era of WWE, the game makes characters like Stone Cold Steve Austin and elements like Monday Night Wars more of a focus than any previous game. The mode will feature 35 of the Attitude Era‘s top superstars, over 60 cutscenes and 20 video packages, which will fill in information needed to understand a feud or match’s setting in the WWE universe. The Attitude Era mode will also do lots of small things to bring you back in time, like bringing back the original entrances, arenas and TV graphics from when the fights first aired. Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross, who many will remember as the commentators from the Attitude Era, will also be present, providing reactive commentary on the matches as they happen.

The mode will feature 65 matches spread out over a two year season, allowing players to fight their way through a variety of classic WWE stories. Within the chapters, players are given a chance to play through storylines from the perspectives of The Rock, Steve Austin, Mick Foley, D-Generation-X, Kane, The Undertaker and Bret Hart. The chapters for each will be titled the Rise of DX, Austin 3:16, the Brothers of Destruction, The Great One, Mankind and WrestleMania XV. The point of these storylines is apparently not to fight every match in each feud, but to provide an understanding for new fans of why these characters are fighting and their motivations.
