Psy’s Gangnam Style reaches No.1 in the UK!

It’s happened. As confirmed, by BBC’s Radio 1, Psy’s Gangnam Style has managed to reach #1 on the UK’s Official Top 40 Chart, toppling last week’s #1, The Script’s Hall of Fame, into second place. It is the first time a K-Pop track has managed to reach the top spot in the UK.

Psy recorded a special message for those listening to the chart, thanking the fans, saying, “I’m so pleased that my song Gangnam Style has got to #1 in the UK…thank you.”

On top of this the song has managed to reach #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in the US (behind Maroon 5’s One More Night). Psy has proclaimed that he will perform the song topless in front of Seoul’s City Hall should it reach the top spot there. So you never know… it could still happen!

Since it was uploaded on July 15th, the infectious music video has became an internet sensation, having already amassed over 320 million views and even achieving a Guinness World Record for being the “Most Liked Video” on YouTube.

The track has helped Psy become an international superstar. He has since appeared in the US on the MTV Video Music Awards, Saturday Light Live, and even made an appearance on The Ellen Show teaching the dance to Britney Spears! The music video has also inspired an assortment of parody videos and flash mob dances.

Just a few days ago on Tuesday (September 25) at a press conference in Gangnam, Seoul, Psy spoke about his surprise with the worldwide success of Gangnam Style, saying “I feel like I am dreaming and I am still at a loss for words. This wasn’t something that I planned for but it just happened. I thought I was going through the peak of my life before. But now… wow… some impossible things have happened to me.”

With a new single set for release in the US in November, the only question now is, how on earth will Psy top this?
