Ms Marvel and the X-Men to share screen time with The Avengers?

It’s starting to look like the cast of Avengers 2 could be about to get even bigger. According to the Daily Mail Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are both going for the role of Ms Marvel.

It was always going to seem like the obvious choice to get another female superhero and you can’t get more super than Ms Marvel. If they do decide to go all out and give her powers to match her comic cousin, then that means another person that could hold their own against the Hulk and doesn’t that sound like fun?

Elsewhere in the Marvel universe, X-Men producer Laura Shuler Donner has said she would be very happy to see the X-Men sharing screen time with the Avengers.

Whilst being interviewed by she said “I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige, because Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written, yeah, absolutely.”

At this point however, it doesn’t seem likely that one of the X-Men will have anything other than a minor role to play in Avengers 2 (if any). Avengers Assemble had a large number of characters to start with. Keeping the balance in an ensemble piece with so many people is a tough juggling act.

There are already so many characters that haven’t had a big screen appearance yet, characters that aren’t in another studio’s possession. So it seems likely that when writing for the Avengers Joss Whedon will choose from them when putting the roster together.

That’s not to say X-Men couldn’t appear elsewhere. The Marvel Cinematic Universe consists of other movies that aren’t Avengers 2, so X-Men could possibly make an appearance in one of those. The idea was that these films would replicate the comics, with characters passing in and out of each other’s stories and crossing paths.

Whether this will ever actually come to fruition will have to be seen. But like Sony and the Oscorp tower it’s good to know that the studios are willing to play nice.
