Marvel Phase 2 update

Ant-Man, 3D releases, Hugo Weaving and the Mark XLVII armor.

Thanks to a press release from Marvel and Disney we now have a release date for Ant-Man. The date given is 6th November 2015 which puts its release after the Avengers sequel, which comes out 1st May the same year.

So far a UK date hasn’t been announced but there’s every chance that it could be earlier than that, as Avengers Assemble was and Iron Man 3 will be.

Elsewhere Thor: The Dark World got an official synopsis that reads as follows:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Looks like the film will venture more in to the mythology of the Thor stories which should be good fun to watch from the Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor.

There was also news that Iron Man 3 and Thor would receive 3D releases (not really much of a surprise). Even though the previous Iron Man movies didn’t get the 3D treatment, there’s potential that it could be used to good effect for the flying shots.

Meanwhile, news arrived that Hugo Weaving would be unlikely to return as the Red Skull. In an interview with Collider, when asked about the multi-picture contract with Marvel he had this to say:

I did that for Captain America. I think the tendency, with those films, would be to probably not bring a villain back.  They might for The Avengers, but I didn’t think I’d be in Captain America 2 or 3. I don’t think Red Skull will be there. And it’s not something I would want to do again. I’m glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn’t want to force someone to do it, if they didn’t want to. I think I’ve done my dash with that sort of film. It was good to do it and try it out, but to be honest, it’s not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by. As an actor, to do all sorts of different films is great. It stretches you in different ways. But, I increasingly like to go back to what I used to always do, which is to get involved with projects that I really have a personal affiliation with.

It’s unfortunate news considering just how good a job he did with the performance, but by the sounds of things Red Skull might not have even had a part to play in any of the Phase 2 movies.

And finally, with just one week to go for the Iron Man 3 trailer (October 23rd), we have a promotional poster for your enjoyment.
