EuroCosplay 2012 Competition Final

EuroCosplay has been raising the profile of cosplay across Europe, inspiring cosplayers to come together and truly push their skills to the limit. With 23 entries last year, MCM Expo London saw 42 contestants enter from 25 countries, all for the title of EuroCosplay champion 2012!

Mr Stuart Claw held the audiences excitement as the contestants prepared, providing  giveaways such as Blu-rays, DVDs and headphones. But it wasn’t long before Joe ‘Granny Gertrude’ announced “The Judges have descended!” The 3rd EuroCosplay competition had begun! The popularity of this show has now reached heights that even requests from South American countries were petitioned for entry. Previously Portugal had won the initial competition, followed by the United Kingdom on the second annual championship.

Fully funded by MCM, each country has entered the best of the best, and a heck of a show it has been as beautiful craftsmanship, dedication and a flair for stage presence have come together for a very close competition! There have been performances from beautifully ornate series’ such as Aion: Tower of Eternity, Castlevania Chronicles, Atlantica Online, League of Legends, Final Fantasy series, Stardust, Trinity Blood, World of Warcraft and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, to the enigmatic and joyful franchises such as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Angry Birds, Monster Hunter 3, How To Train Your Dragon and Digimon Adventures. Though one theme that seemed resoundingly powerful and very applicable to this time of year, was the monstrously creepy performances from titles such as Alice: Madness Returns, Bioshock 2, Warmachine, Silent Hill, Assassin’s Creed, Pirates of the Caribbean, Warhammer 40k, Aliens vs Predator and Diablo III.

Judges had a very hard decision to make this year, though while they observed the craftsmanship, it was easy to be captured in the moment of spitting blood and working chain-swords. The front row didn’t mind the soap-sud bath they received from the water Elementals, but the photographers made like turtles! And while soundtracks varied greatly with the expected ‘Gangnam style’ and somewhat unexpected Vader ‘Noooo!’ yell, no one expected the Silent Hill Pyramid Head ‘bum wiggle’ on exiting the stage.

A big thank you goes to all participants for making an intense competition an equally fun evening! Each country listed below has brought out the very best in Cosplay craftsmanship and it goes without saying that every contestant on stage really has excelled in showing their best skills in the rapidly developing art that is cosplay.

We give thanks to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Spain, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and host country of Great Britain.

At the end of the night the judges came to their conclusion and Joe took to the stage to announce the winners…
