G. I. Joe Retaliation Trailer

Everyone has a guilty pleasure. G. I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is one of mine. It is a movie that goes alongside the Transformers trilogy as one best enjoyed if you leave your brain at the door. It’ll never win any Oscars, but it’s the brand of movie I like to call ‘Stupid Fun’.

And so it comes to this, a sequel to G. I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, G. I. Joe: Retaliation. A sequel that removes about 90% of the characters from the first movie, but does add Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis, two heavy hitters that will most certainly help bring more Stupid Fun.

The production timeline of this has been a dubious one; most notably it was delayed into the next year thanks to reshoots to change the plot of the movie in order to keep Channing Tatum’s character, Duke, alive as opposed to being killed off. The delay was also explained by stating that 3D was to be added, as well as increasing interest in the film and to reshape it more thanks to Tatum’s recent success with cinematic audiences.

It seems however that things look a lot more worked out thanks to this, a trailer recently released for G. I. Joe: Retaliation. Check it out below:

It certainly shows a lot more footage than before and it works to introduce the concept of this sequel. Despite working off a completely re-tooled story and structured as a sequel to a movie missing the majority of its predecessors elements, G. I. Joe: Retaliation certainly looks like it will have a lot of potential. Just the knowledge that Dwayne Johnson is in this flick has some pulling power. He’s not one for the awards circuit, but he can definitely make for a key piece of the Stupid Fun puzzle.

The logline for G. I. Joe: Retaliation is thus:

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

G. I. Joe: Retaliation looks like a film that is going to blow your senses rather than your mind. But if one can leave their brain at home for a couple hours then be sure to look out for this movie next year. One hopes it will be a good addition to the selection of Stupid Fun films out there, and hopefully not just the former.

G. I. Joe: Retaliation is set for a March 29th 2013 release. It stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis, it is directed by Jon M. Chu, and Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the screenplay.
