Reign of Assassins set for UK cinema release

Wuxia film Reign of Assassins will receive a UK cinema release in the UK, courtesy of Ratpack Films.

Set for release in the UK on 15th February 2013, the film is directed by John Woo and Su Chao-Pin. Described as an action-comedy and romance in the vein of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, it also incorporates an identity swap motif.

Set in Ancient China, the story follows Drizzle, a deadly and ruthless assassin of the Dark Stone gang. During a mission to return the remains of a mystical Buddhist monk to their resting place she decides to atone for her life of theft and murder, leaving the gang forever. Undergoing a drastic procedure to alter her appearance she changes her name to Jing and starts a new life in the capital as a shopkeeper. However, the Dark Stone gang is hot on her trail to obtain the monk’s remains, which legend says will grant the possessor control of the martial arts world.

The film stars Michelle Yeoh, Jung Woo-sung, Kelly Lin and Shawn Yue.

Reign of Assassins has already managed to earn over $13 million during its release in Asian territories (earning just over $9.9 million in its homeland China). Critically acclaimed and nominated for ten Hong Kong Film Awards, the martial arts actioner opens in the UK on 15th February, with a DVD release to follow on February 25th.
