Spike Lee’s Oldboy Gets Teaser Poster

CinemaCon_Oldboy_webFor the movie buffs out there, it has been a growing concern that Park Chan Wook‘s classic movie Oldboy would be getting an American remake. Well now a teaser poster has been released showing an iconic part of the movie. With Spike Lee as the new director, the film was shot last year and stars Elizabeth OlsenSharlto Copley, and Josh Brolin

For those who don’t know, the original movie was part of Park Chan Wook‘s ‘Vengeance’ series which consisted of Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy For Lady Vengeance. Oldboy follows Oh Dae Su, who is kidnapped and locked in a room for 15 years without knowing why. When he is finally released, Dae Su finds himself trapped in a web of conspiracy and violence. Based on a Japanese manga written by Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki MinegishiOldboy is one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed films to come out of the Korean film industry and has won many awards. From side scrolling violent fist fights, to the sick and twisted ending, the film will have your mind boggling.

When rumours were spread last year, a lot of fans were disappointed and begging for those involved to reconsider doing an American remake. The fear was that certain story elements, the violence and its bloody nature would be lost and tamed. But if anything is to go by Spike Lee‘s previous productions, we are all in for something a little bit special.

Oldboy is set to open in the US later this year on 11 October. Universal Pictures have picked up the film for distribution in the UK, but as of yet there is no UK release date.
