As part of a special preview screening of the latest Pokémon feature film, ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens, (scheduled for release on Saturday 13 July in Japan) further details have been revealed about the upcoming Pokémon X and Y games. In addition, a new, Kalos-based season of the anime series has been announced, along with a follow-up movie.

xyashA trailer shown before a preview itself introduced a new Pokémon, called either Aulotte or Orotto, though so far, we have little concrete information about this creature, aside from its Japanese name. An upcoming special edition 3DS XL console was also announced, said to be blue and red in colour and to feature prints of Xerneas and Yveltal.

calemThe new series is set to air in Japan on Thursday 17 October, just five days after the release of the new games, and will see Ash Ketchum travel through Kalos, beginning in the region’s central hub, Lumiose City. In the promotional images, he is shown sporting a new outfit, not wholly dissimilar to that worn by Calem, the male player character in the games. There’s no word yet about an English-dubbed version of the series, but given the simultaneous global release date for the games, and Nintendo‘s obvious commitment to reducing the waiting time for international customers, it’s likely that we can expect this to follow hot on the heels of the Japanese show. A spin-off film has also been announced, scheduled for release in Summer 2014.
