Is There a Link Between Katee Sackhoff and a Captain Marvel Movie?

There’s been a growing pressure for Marvel to bring more variety to their roster and finally make a female superhero movie. A Miss Marvel movie has been suggested in the past though with changes in the comics that could now be “Captain Marvel”.

Marvel director/producer Louis D’Esposito spoke to recently, revealing that the studio is well aware of the fans wishes.

“There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero. [W]e have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?”

Unfortunately due to the number of Marvel titles already in the planning stage, a female-led film might be some time.

“It’s hard because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that’s what we’re really concentrating on.”

While it’s unfortunate that it’s taken the studio this long to start considering the idea, we can at least be hopeful that there is a chance for the future. Especially when other news regarding Katee Sackhoff appeared. The Battlestar… um, star, is another big name who’s been chatting with Disney.

Now this could be Disney-Marvel or it could even be another Disney property. When asked about it on the latest Schmoes Know podcast, she answered with an ever so slightly awkward reply.

“Um… There’s been some stuff going on. Um… there’s been a lot of checking of availability… I don’t quite know exactly… I don’t know… there’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year.”

It’s been pointed out that the first quarter of next year is when The Avengers sequel Age of Ultron moves in to production. We won’t blame you if you started crossing your fingers and hoping this means a possible Captain Marvel cameo. After all, it would be a case of perfect casting if it turned out to be true. And with the success of the Captain Marvel comics by Kelly Sue DeConnick, there’s never been a better time. But as of now it’s just a geek dream until we hear further confirmation.
