Paul Rudd to Play Ant-Man

A few rumours had been floating around yesterday but it’s now been confirmed that Paul Rudd has officially signed on to be Ant-Man. Details of the plot are still being kept under wraps but we know that the script has been written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish (an awesome writing team that resulted in The Adventures of Tintin).

It seems this particular casting choice has been on the cards for a while now and has been met with approval by the folks at Marvel. Kevin Feige had this to say:

“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

And it looks like Marvel fans are just as excited by this particular news as the reaction so far is extremely positive. (Does this make Paul Rudd the anti-Ben Affleck?) It’s easy to see why though. Ant-Man is a tricky character to get right and isn’t quite as instantly charming as Iron Man or Captain America. So to have an actor who is as likeable as Paul Rudd is definitely a big plus.

We’re not sure quite sure yet whether this is a casting for Hank Pym or Scott Lang. Last thing we heard was that the story revolved mainly around Scott Lang as Ant-Man and only had Hank Pym as a side character. But with Edgar Wright keeping things close to his chest, it’s very possible this won’t turn out to be true at all. Either way, Paul Rudd will be Ant-Man and we can’t wait!
