‘The Animal’ Batista returning to WWE?

Batista-WWE-ChampionIn a somewhat surprising development, it would appear that Dave Bautista (aka Batista) has been lined up for a return to WWE in February. Ticket sites have been advertising The Animal for a live event at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on February 16th. Batista hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring since 2010 after quitting the company, stating in subsequent interviews that he was unhappy with the direction of the company.

WWE’s focus on ‘PG’ programming appeared to be a step too far for the former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion, who then set his sights on MMA. However he has only had one fight to date, and that plan seems to be on hold. Instead Batista is following in the footsteps of fellow WWE superstar The Rock and aiming to take over Hollywood. Starring in a number of direct-to-video movies such as House Of The Rising Sun and The Scorpion King 3, Batista then got his big break this year alongside Vin Diesel in Riddick.

Batista’s apparent WWE return looks to coincide with Wrestlemania XXX through to his promotion of his new movie, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, in which he plays Drax The Destroyer. Guardians will be one of the last Phase Two movies, released after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and before Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Starring Chris Pratt, Star Trek’s Zoe Saldana, and Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan amongst others, Guardians is Marvel’s riskiest movie to date, far from the familiar tales of Iron Man and company.

WWE officials seem to want to keep Batista’s return a secret, so it’s a ‘watch this space’ situation at the moment, but fans worldwide are certainly hoping The Animal steps foot in the ring again to deliver a devastating Batista Bomb on someone new in 2014. The Road to Wrestlemania is starting to look interesting!
