The Marvel Experience: Travelling Superhero Theme Park

To anyone who’s ever wished for the chance to get more immersed in the world of their favourite superheroes, the announcement of plans for a new Marvel theme park will come as welcome news. Called The Marvel Experience, this new theme park will differ from existing Disney and Universal parks in one crucial way: rather than sticking to a fixed location, it will take the form of a pop-up park within a dome designed to travel around to different cities.

Created by Hero Ventures in association with Marvel Entertainment, the park is described as “a massive six-story high dome as big as two football fields,” which will include:

“4D rides and games like a state-of-the-art amusement park. And it features 3D animation, virtual reality, and hologram simulations, all within an actual storyline that lets you become part of the Marvel Comics world of superheroes and experience it directly — including seeing and interacting with some of those characters.”

Or, in Blastr‘s terms:

“what happens when Disney (interactive rides), the Big Apple Circus (a touring Big Top) and Stan Lee (Marvel Marvel Marvel) have a gene-spliced baby”

Part of the reason for the decision to make The Marvel Experience a touring attraction is that Universal owns the rights to several of the core Marvel superheroes within a 250 mile radius of Orlando, Florida, where the Disney World and Universal Studios theme parks are located. This allows Disney to get around the rights issue without having to pay out vast sums of money to a rival company.

No information has yet been given about the locations that the theme park will be visiting, or which characters it will feature. Based on the poster above, however, it’s probably safe to assume that Iron Man, Spider-Man, The Hulk and S.H.I.E.L.D. will all be making an appearance in some form. As far as the locations are concerned, it seems that current plans only extend as far as America and Canada, so those hoping for a European tour may have a long time to wait. Still, fingers crossed.
