First Trailer for District 13 remake Brick Mansions

Brick Mansions (one sheet poster)The first trailer and poster has arrived for Brick Mansions, a remake of the French actioner District 13 (Banlieue 13).

Set in Detroit, there’s one particular part of the city that few would dare to enter – Brick Mansions; a major hotbed of crime that the police have constructed a wall around. It also happens to be home for ex-convict Lino (David Belle). When drug kingpin Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino’s girlfriend he fights to get her back. However, things go from bad to worse when Tremaine also holds the mayor hostage and threatens to launch a missile if his demands are not met. When the news reaches the police they decide to bring in Detective Damien Collier (Paul Walker), who reluctantly teams up with Lino to bring down Tremaine.

The original film was released back in 2004, and was co-written by Luc Besson and directed by Pierre Morel. It was notable for its outstanding parkour action sequences as depicted by its lead star David Belle, who returns in the remake as Lino. From the trailer for Brick Mansions it would appear that this remake does not deviate much from the original. Look past the cheesy dialogue (“I handle what needs handling”) and its clear that the main priority is to deliver real action.

From Camille Delamarre, Brick Mansions makes for his feature film debut as a director, having previously edited on Besson productions such as Colombiana, Lockout and Taken 2. He is also set to direct the rebooted Transporter 4.

Brick Mansions is notable for being the last feature film that Paul Walker completed before his untimely death. EuropaCorp, the production company behind the film, and US distributor Relativity intend to honour Walker with the release of the film by making a donation to his charity Reach Out WorldWide.

Co-starring Catalina Denis, Carlo Rota, Bruce Ramsay and Robert Maillet, Brick Mansions opens in the US on 25 April 2014. It currently has no UK release date.
